Tourist (L) Visa
Updated 1 Nov 2025
Requirements
Most foreign nationals require a tourist visa obtained before travel at a Chinese embassy, consulate, or authorised visa centre. Typical requirements include a valid passport with six months' validity and blank pages, completed application form, recent passport photo, proof of onward travel, hotel bookings or invitation letter, and bank statements showing sufficient funds. Visa-free transit of 24–144 hours may apply at specific ports for eligible passport holders — nationality lists change; always verify current policy.
Processing
Standard processing takes 4–5 working days at most visa centres; express service available for additional fees. Apply at the centre responsible for your country of residence. Hong Kong and Macau require separate entry permissions — a China visa does not permit entry to either.
